I go to godaddy.com to check to see if a particular 3 digit/letter (m7u.com, for example) url is available and I come to realize it is not. I then try other 3 digit/letter urls but nothing, I get the same “not available” results. So I’m concluding that 3 digit/letter urls cannot be registered — by ANYONE. Does anybody know why cause I REALLY want this one domain name I just thought of. Thanks!

Three letter domains exist. Try “ibm.com”, for example. They have probably all been taken. Your example “m3u.com” has a website associated with it. It’s a dummy directory site, but it’s a site. Probably somebody had the domain once, went out of business, and some squatter grabbed it for whatever drive-by traffic they could get from links to the old site. Since there’s not teaser to buy the domain, I suspect it’s being used purely for advertising.
I won’t be surprised if all the 3 letter domains were taken, after all there’s over a billion people using the internet and it’s only a 3 letter combination.
