register.com screwed up my DNS and I’m waiting for the correct settings to filter through the internet now. This screw up made me look at alternate registrars, and I see that the costs vary dramatically – example: register.com charges $35 per year for a .com but godaddy.com charges $7. This is for basic domain registration, not hosting, email, or dns. I don’t see any reason to stay with register.com, but I want to make sure that there isn’t some risk that I’m not aware of with a cheap registrar like godaddy.

1 and 1 have just put the price up for my .co.uk domain to £2.99 from £1.99 a year.
Shock horror !
If you are going to register a domain then the best way to register a domain for free is to purchase your domain and webhosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some webhosting companies offer this as a gift . I am using bluehost webhosting for minehttp://www.bluehost.com/track/bluehostwe…
Godaddy has an automated system that screws you over if someone makes a complaint….they lock out your domain and wont release it without a court order…
While others will fight for you…..
AVOID GODADDY !!!
